The best way to treat suntan lotion stains on merino clothing is by giving it a cold water rinse right away. Do this as soon as possible after the stain has occurred, because the sooner you take care of it, the less likely the stain is to become permanent. Once you have given the affected area a cold water rinse, you can use a mild detergent to try and remove the leftover residue. Make sure to choose a detergent that does not contain any bleaching agents or harsh chemicals, as these may damage the fabric and make the stain more difficult to remove.

If the standard cold water rinse and detergent method does not work, you can try pre-treating the stain with a commercial stain removal product. Be sure to check the label of the product to make sure it is safe for type of fabric you are dealing with. Once the pre-treatment has been applied, follow the directions on the package and allow it to sit for recommended length of time. Then, wash the item as you normally would in cold water.

For tougher suntan lotion stains on merino clothing, you may need to bring it to a professional dry cleaner. Be sure to inform them of the type of stain before they begin working on it and make sure to follow their instructions and advice.
