The first step is to treat affected area with a mild detergent. Mix one tablespoon of liquid detergent with two cups of cold water. Gently dab the stain with the soapy solution using a sponge or cloth. Don’t rub the fabric since you could spread the stain and damage the material. Allow the detergent to soak into the fabric for 15 minutes.

Next, rinse the spot with just cool water. You might need to continue to blot the spot with a damp cloth. Once finished, lay the maxi dress flat on a towel, and allow it to air dry. Check the stain to make sure it's been removed. If it still remains, repeat above steps.

If water and detergent solution didn't work, you may need to try something stronger. Create a paste of baking soda and water, and then apply directly to the stain. Let sit for 10-15 minutes, and then rinse off with cold water. Finally, place dress in the washer and wash normally.
