Suntan lotion stains are best when treated quickly. If possible, wash the item as soon as you can to minimize the risk of long-term staining. If you can't get it in the washing machine right away, at least rinse affected area with cold water. This helps to keep the stain from setting further.
If the garment is pre-washable, consider using a pre-treatment solution such as oxi-clean or stain remover on the affected area. You can find these products in the laundry detergent aisle of many stores. Follow the directions on the product for best results.
Once the pre-treatment has had a chance to work its magic, place the garment in a porcelain or glass bowl and use a mild soap or detergent to create a lather. Then, let the garment soak in the soapy water for up to two hours. After the soak, rinse the garment carefully and then place it in a washing machine.
When it is time to wash the garment, remember to use a gentle cycle and a mild detergent. Additionally, make sure to check the item for any remaining stains before placing it in dryer. If there are any stains still present, repeat steps 2-4 until the stains are gone.
