The most important thing to remember when removing suntan lotion stains is to act quickly. The longer it sits in the fabric, the harder it will be to remove. It’s also important to treat the stain gently, since strong scrubbing can damage the fabric or make the stain worse.
Using a white cloth, very gently blot the stain until you remove as much of the lotion as possible. Be sure to blot from the outside of the stain toward the center so that you don’t spread the lotion further into the fabric. Once you have removed as much as possible, move onto step two.
Mix a mild detergent with lukewarm water and combine to create a sudsy solution. Using a white cloth, gently dab the solution onto the stain, once again using light pressure and working from the outside of the stain inwards. Allow the solution to sit on the stain for fifteen minutes before going any further.
Once solution has been allowed to work into the fabric, rinse the area with cold water to remove the detergent. Once again, begin at the outside of the stain and work towards the center. Repeat this process until all of the detergent is removed.
Once the stain has been rinsed, wash the shirt in cold water with a mild detergent. After the wash cycle is complete, check to see if the stain is gone. If not, repeat the spot treating and rinsing process from above until the stain is removed.
