Sunscreen, while great for keeping your skin protected from the sun’s damaging rays, can be very messy. If you’re wearing clothes or other fabrics made of lace, you’ve probably experienced the frustration of having sunscreen staining your clothing. Fortunately, there are some simple and effective ways to get rid of those pesky sunscreen stains.

What you will need:

  • A non-abrasive detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Cloth

Step One: Create A Cleaning Solution

Mix together one tablespoon of your non-abrasive detergent with one cup of warm water. Gently stir the solution until it is combined.

Step Two: Pre-Treat the Stain

Soak a cloth in cleaning solution and then apply it directly to the stain. Leave the cloth on the stain for a few minutes to allow the solution to penetrate fabric and loosen the stain. If the stain is particularly stubborn, add a teaspoon of white vinegar to solution before soaking cloth.

Step Three: scrub the Stain

Using a soft-bristled brush, gently scrub the fabric in a circular motion to help break up the stain. Rinse the cloth in warm water and continue scrubbing the stain until it is completely gone.

Step Four: Rinse and Treat

Rinse the stained area with cool water and blot it dry with a clean cloth. For tough stains, mix together a paste using equal parts baking soda and white vinegar. Apply the paste to the stain and let sit for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, rinse the area and blot the fabric dry.

Situation Specific Tips:

  • If the stain is still visible, consider washing fabric on its own in the washing machine.
  • If the lace fabric is delicate, spot test the cleaning products in a small area of the fabric before applying it to the entire stain.
  • If the fabric has already been washed in the washing machine, try dry cleaning the fabric to remove any remaining stains.

Conclusion

Cleaning sunscreen stains from lace fabrics doesn't have to be complicated or time consuming. With a few common household items, you can make quick work of any stubborn stains and keep your fabrics looking like new.
