The first step in removing suntan lotion stains from dresses is to act quickly. The sooner you can address a stain, the easier it is to remove.
Use a clean cloth to blot the stained area and absorb as much of lotion as possible. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the stain as this can cause the stain to spread.
Pre-treat the stain by dampening a cloth with cold water and adding a few drops of mild liquid detergent. Then, gently dab stained area with the detergent-dampened cloth. Let sit for 5 minutes.
Rinse treated area with cool water. This will help to further remove the lotion from the fabric.
Once the stain is worked out, launder item according to its care instructions. Be sure to use cold water to prevent re-setting stain.
Check for any remaining stain before drying the garment. If any remains, repeat above steps until the stain is gone. Then let air dry.
If the stain persists after laundering, try soaking the garment in an enzyme-based pre-wash stain remover overnight. Then launder as usual.
