Soak and Wash Method

The soak and wash method is one of the best ways to get rid of suntan lotion stains on draperies or curtains. To start, you should fill a large basin or sink with warm water. If you have any oxygen bleach–such as OxiClean–you can add a scoop of that to water to help with the cleaning process. Once the basin is full, submerge the affected area of the drapery or curtain in the water and let it soak for at least 10 minutes.

Next, you can use a mild detergent or laundry soap with a small amount of white vinegar and rub the stain. Make sure to be gentle so as not to damage the fabric. You can continue to scrub the stain until it is fully gone. After you are finished scrubbing, rinse the area with clean, cold water until it no longer has any suds.

Finally, dry the fabric off with a clean cloth and hang it up to air dry. If the stain is still present, repeat the process until stain is gone.

Spot Cleaning Method

If you don’t have time or the supplies to do a full soak and wash, you can try spot cleaning to get rid of the stain. To start, mix a small amount of mild detergent with white vinegar. Apply the mixture to the stained area and wait for a few minutes for the cleaning solution to set.

Next, gently rub the area with a soft cloth or brush until the stain is no longer visible. Again, be careful not to damage the fabric. Finally, rinse the area with clean, cold water until all of the suds are gone. Let the drapery or curtain air dry before putting them back in place.

Conclusion

Getting rid of suntan lotion stains on draperies and curtains doesn’t have to be a daunting task. With right techniques, it can be easily taken care of. Whether you choose the soak and wash method or spot cleaning method, you can get those stubborn suntan lotion stains out and have your draperies and curtains look like new in no time.
