Things You'll Need

  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Dishwashing liquid detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Baking soda
  • Soft cloth

Step 1: Brush Away Debris

Using a clean, soft cloth, remove as much of the suntan lotion as you can. Take care to remove any sticky residue that may be lingering on the fabric.

Step 2: Pre-treat the Stain

Combine equal parts rubbing alcohol and dishwashing liquid detergent. You should have enough mixture to cover the stained area. Swish the solution around and gently rub it into stain. Once the stain has been completely saturated, allow solution to sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Rinse with Water

Rinse the stained area with cold water. Do not use hot water, as this could make stain more difficult to remove.

Step 4: Treat with Vinegar and Baking Soda

Mix together a solution of ¼ cup white vinegar and 2 tablespoons of baking soda. Pour the mixture onto stained area. Gently massage in the solution, being careful not to damage fabric. Allow it to sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 5: Launder as Usual

Wash the cocktail dress according to manufacturer's instructions. Air dry the dress on a flat surface or tumble dry on low heat.

Tips

  • Avoid using hot water or dryer settings, as this can set the stain further.
  • Always read the washing instructions before laundering your garment.
  • For tough, set-in stains, repeat the treatment process 2-3 times.
