The first step to removing suntan lotion stains from chambray clothing is to pretreat the area with a liquid laundry detergent. Apply the detergent onto the stain and gently rub it into fabric using a soft cloth. Let the detergent soak in for 5–10 minutes before washing garment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
If stain is still present after laundering, you can try a stronger disinfectant such as white vinegar or borax. Apply either one of these products directly to the stain and let sit for 15–20 minutes. Next, scrub the area with a laundry brush until the stain has been removed. Rinse the clothing with cool water, and then launder with detergent according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
For more difficult stains, you may need to break out the heavy-duty stuff. Mix a solution of 1/2 cup granulated dish soap and 1/2 cup lukewarm water. Dip a soft cloth into the solution and rub it into the stained area. Let the mixture sit for 10–15 minutes. Remove the solution by rinsing with cold water, then launder the garment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
With proper care, your chambray clothing should be free from suntan lotion stains in no time!
