Calico is a lightweight fabric, commonly used for making summer clothing like shirts and dresses. But due to its light colour, calico can easily become stained by suntan lotion.

Removing Fresh Suntan Lotion Stains from Calico

If you catch stain early, it’s easy to remove. Here’s what you need to do:

  • Mix liquid detergent with water to make a cleaning solution.
  • Dip a soft cloth into the solution and dab the stained area.
  • Let the cleaning solution sit for about five minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Gently blot the area dry with a clean cloth.

Removing Old Suntan Lotion Stains from Calico

For older, set-in stains, you’ll need to use a more powerful cleaner. Here’s what to do:

  • Mix 1 part white vinegar with 1 part cold water.
  • Dip a soft cloth into the mixture and dab the stained area.
  • Let the cleaning solution sit for 15 minutes.
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Blot dry with a clean cloth.

Preventing Further Suntan Lotion Stains on Calico

To prevent future suntan lotion stains, try using sunblock specifically formulated for use on fabrics like clothes. Spray sunblock onto the fabric of your garment and let it dry before going out in the sun.
