Using the dull side of a butter knife or spoon, scrape off any excess suntan lotion from the suit. Make sure to be gentle to avoid damaging the fabric. Once you’ve scraped off as much as possible, discard the residue and move on to Step 2.
There are a variety of products specifically designed to remove suntan lotion stains. If the stain is light to moderate, pre-soak the area with a liquid stain remover such as Zout or Spray 'n Wash. Be sure to read directions before application.
Fill a sink or tub with warm water and add a quarter cup of laundry detergent. Place the suit into the sink/tub and allow it to soak for up to 10 minutes. If the stain is still visible after soaking, wet suit completely and apply a dab of liquid detergent directly onto the stain. Rub detergent into the stain and let it sit for up to five minutes.
After letting the suit sit, launder as usual following instructions on the garment’s tag. Avoid using bleach or hot water, as they may damage delicate fabrics. Allow the suit to air dry or use an air fluff setting on your dryer. Your suit should now look brand new!
Getting rid of suntan lotion stains from a business suit doesn't have to be a daunting task. With some gentle scraping, pre-soaking, and laundering, you can restore your suit to its former glory. Just remember to be careful when scraping the lotion and always follow the instructions on the garment’s tag for best results.
