There are a few simple household items that can help you remove suntan lotion from your bras. Rubbing alcohol is one of most effective ways to get rid of the oil-based lotion. Just pour a small amount onto the stain, allow it to sit for a few minutes, and then blot with a clean cloth. You can also use a mixture of 1/4 cup vinegar and 1/4 cup baking soda to create a paste that will help break down the stain. Apply the paste to the stain, let it sit for at least 15 minutes, and then wash as normal.
There are also products specifically designed to remove suntan lotion stains. Look for a product that contains enzymes, which are known to break down oils and greases. Spray or rub the product directly on the stain, let it sit for recommended amount of time on the bottle, and then launder as normal. Be sure to read product instructions, as different formulas may require different application methods.
Before using any of the above methods, make sure to test the cleaning agent on a small, hidden area of bra first to make sure it does not cause further damage. Additionally, consider pre-treating your bras before going to the beach. Apply a thin layer of talcum powder or baby powder to any areas that may come in contact with suntan lotion, like straps and underwire. Doing this will help reduce the amount of oil that seeps into the fabric and create a barrier between the lotion and your bra.
