Using Detergent for Fabric Belts

One of the best cleaning agents for fabric belts is detergent. To start, fill your sink with lukewarm water and add mild laundry detergent. If you feel the need to, mix a few drops of vinegar into the water to help loosen any oils from the belt. Submerge your belt in the mixture and let it soak for 10 minutes.

Once 10 minutes have passed, take your belt out and gently rub the stained area to help loosen the oils. Now you can rinse your belt under cool running water and let it hang to dry. Once your belt is dry, use a soft cloth to buff away any remaining residue. With proper care, this method should rid your belt of pesky suntan lotion stains.

Using Solvent for Leather Belts

Cleaning leather belts requires a different approach than fabric. Start by dampening a soft cloth with warm water and rubbing stained area gently. This will help remove the top layer of oils. Once you have finished, make sure to dry the area with another damp cloth.

Now, take a soft bristled brush and dip it into a mild solvent. Gently rub the stained area with brush, working in small circles. After a few minutes, use a damp cloth to wipe away any remaining residue. Then, use a soft cloth to buff the area until it's smooth.

Finally, apply a leather conditioner to the area to help protect the belt from future staining. With this method, you should be able to remove suntan lotion stains from your leather belt with ease.
