Removing the Stain
- If the stain is still fresh, blot it with a damp paper towel.
- Create a cleaning solution by mixing 1 teaspoon of regular laundry detergent with 4 cups of cool water.
- Soak the stained fabric in the solution for 30 minutes.
- Using a clean, damp cloth, begin blotting at the edges of the stain and working your way to the middle.
- Rinse the affected area with warm water.
- If the stain persists, mix together a paste using 2 parts Dawn dish soap and 8 parts warm water and apply directly to the stain. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Rinse the paste off with warm water and blot dry with a towel.
- Tumble dry on low heat.
Additional Tips
- Always patch test any detergent or solution before use, as some fabric dyes may bleed or run when exposed to cleaning solutions.
- When removing the stain, always work from the outside in to avoid spreading the stain to other areas.
- Suntan lotion stains are more difficult to remove when they have been sitting for a long period of time. As such, it’s important to take steps to remove the stain as soon as possible.
