First, you want to act fast when it comes to removing a fresh sparkling wine stain. Blot the stain to make sure it is not embedded by pressing a cloth or paper towel onto the affected area. Use gentle strokes and do not rub, as this can spread the stain.
Next, fill a bowl with cool water and mix in a few tablespoons of liquid dish soap. Place a clean white cloth into the mixture and ring out the excess so it is damp. Gently blot stain with the cloth until it starts to transfer onto the cloth. Move to a clean area of the cloth as needed. Once the cloth is no longer picking up color from the stain, wet a second cloth with just water and blot the area again.
Remove any remaining colors by placing a few drops of vinegar on the stain. Blot with a clean cloth. After the stain is gone, you will want to wash the velvet item with a gentle detergent. Read your care tags first to make sure it is safe to wash by hand or in a washing machine.
If you are still unable to remove the stain, you may need to take it to a professional dry cleaner. Either way, you should have your velvet item looking as good as new in no time.
