Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first step in getting out a sparkling wine stain is to blot the spot with a damp paper towel or cloth to remove as much of the excess wine as possible. Do not rub or scrub the area, as this can cause the stain to spread.

Step 2: Make a Paste

Mix together equal parts of white vinegar and baking soda to make a paste. Test the paste on an inconspicuous area of clothing to make sure it doesn't damage fabric. Once you have tested paste, use a damp cloth to apply paste to the stained area and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.

Step 3: Wash the Clothing

After the paste has had a chance to set, wash your clothing according to its care label instructions. You may want to add an extra laundry detergent with enzymes, like Sport-Wash Laundry Detergent by Dawn, to help break down stain.

Step 4: Check the Stained Area

Once the clothing has been washed, check the stained area and repeat steps if necessary. If the stain is still visible, you may want to try soaking the clothing in a mixture of laundry detergent and cold water overnight.

Step 5: Dry the Clothing

After the stain is gone, dry the clothing as directed in care instructions.
