Though sparkling wine — also known as Champagne — can provide the perfect punch to any event, its sweet-tart, bubbly makeup can also cause some major messes. If you’ve been caught in the splash zone, here’s how to clean sparkling wine stains from your trench coat quickly and easily.

Things You’ll Need

  • Dish Soap
  • White Vinegar
  • Oxygenated Bleach
  • A Clean Towel

Instructions

  1. Gently blot the stained area with a clean towel. Avoid rubbing the fabric or you may end up pushing the stain further into the coating.
  2. Mix equal parts dish soap and white vinegar, then scrub the affected area with a soft toothbrush. Once the stain has been treated, rinse area with cold water.
  3. If the stain persists, mix 1 teaspoon of oxygenated bleach with 1/4 cup of cold water. Create a paste and spread it onto the stain, then let it sit for a couple hours.
  4. Rinse off the paste with cold water and check for any remaining stains. If necessary, repeat Steps 2 and 3 until the stain is completely removed.

Tips

  • Always use a gentle cleaning solution to avoid damaging the fabric of your trench coat.
  • Check the instructions of your trench coat before using any cleaning agent. Certain fabrics may require special care.
  • If the stain is particularly stubborn, take your trench coat to a professional dry cleaner.
