For some, there’s nothing more timeless than a good tartan pattern, and it’s no surprise that many of us want to keep our tartan looking its best. This can be especially tricky when dealing with bubbly batches of sparkling wine, which can leave awkward and stubborn stains on the fabric.
With proper cleaning methods, however, you can easily erase those stains and restore your tartan to its original splendor. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you tackle those pesky sparkling wine stains.
If someone spills sparkling wine on your tartan, your first response should be to blot the stain with a damp cloth, paper towel, or other absorbent material. Do not scrub or rub the stain, as this could spread wine and make it harder to clean.
Using a spray bottle, mix one teaspoon of delicate detergent (such as Woolite) in two cups of cold water. Spray the mixture over the stained area, giving it a gentle swish with the cloth or a soft brush. Avoid scrubbing the stain, as this may damage the fabric.
Again, using a cloth or paper towel, blot the stained area to remove any excess liquid. Be sure to rinse the cloth or towel after each blotting to avoid spreading the stain.
Rinse area with cold water, spraying or dabbing it with a damp cloth or sponge. Do not use hot water, as this could set the stain.
Once area is dried, use a dry cloth to brush away remaining debris. If needed, use a vacuum cleaner to help remove excess dirt and dust.
Keeping that classic tartan pattern looking its best doesn’t have to be difficult. With right techniques and products, you can easily remove pesky sparkling wine stains. Have any other questions about cleaning tartan fabrics? Check out our FAQ below.
