Steps to Clean Sparkling Wine Stains from Swimwear

  1. Start by dabbing the stain with a damp cloth or sponge to remove any excess liquid. Do not rub aggressively, as this could cause the stain to spread.
  2. Create a cleaning solution of two parts white vinegar and one part water. Test the mixture on a discreet part of the swimwear to check for colorfastness before using, as white vinegar can sometimes cause colors to run.
  3. Dip the damp cloth or sponge into the cleaning solution and gently dab the stained area. Blot until the stain begins to lift.
  4. Rinse the affected area with cool water and blot again with a dry cloth to remove any residue.
  5. If the stain persists, mix one teaspoon of liquid dish detergent in one cup of warm water and mix until sudsy. Dab the stained area with the sudsy solution and rinse with cool water. Repeat until stain has been removed.
  6. Allow the swimsuit to air dry.

Tips for Keeping Swimming Suits Stain-Free

  • Always apply sunscreen before putting on your swimsuit. Sunscreen even has SPF-infused clothing options, which are much less likely to leave behind oily stains.
  • Avoid sitting on wet surfaces like sand, as this can transfer other debris and dirt onto your swimsuit.
  • Turn your swimming suit inside-out when washing to reduce fraying.
  • Handwash your swimsuit with a mild detergent and cold water after each use. Delicates bags can also be used in the washer.
  • Hang dry your swimsuit after use.
