What You Need to Clean a Sparkling Wine Stain from a Suit

  • Paper towels
  • White vinegar
  • Soft cloth
  • Mild detergent or upholstery cleaner

Instructions

  1. Gently press a paper towel against stain to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
  2. Mix 1/2 cup white vinegar in a quart of cold water, then dampen a soft cloth with mixture.
  3. Using the cloth and the solution, gently dab the stained area and wipe it clean. Do not scrub.
  4. If the stain persists, apply a few drops of mild detergent or upholstery cleaner and gently rub it into the fabric.
  5. Rinse and blot the area with cold water, then let it air dry.

Additional Tips

  • For tougher or older wine stains, substitute 1 tablespoon of ammonia for the mild detergent or upholstery cleaner.
  • Make sure not to use hot water when cleaning; it could set the stain.
  • If the suit is delicate or made of an expensive fabric, take it to a professional dry cleaner instead.
