The first step is to act quickly. The faster you respond, the more successful you will be in getting stain out. Start by blotting up as much of the wine as possible with paper towels or a clean cloth. Do not rub stain as this will only spread it further.
Then, mix one part liquid laundry detergent with two parts cool water. Gently apply the solution over the stain, again taking care not to rub it in. Rinse area with another rag and cold water. You may need to repeat the process until you see results.
For tougher stains, try applying a non-chlorine bleach directly to the area. Be sure to use cold water and test on an inconspicuous part of fabric first. If the fabric discolors or weakens, do not use this method.
If all else fails, consider taking the item to a professional cleaner. They will have more heavy-duty cleaning solutions that may help remove stain. Always read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions prior to cleaning.
Sparkling wine stains don’t have to ruin your shantung fabric. With a little bit of effort, you may be able to remove the stain quickly and easily. If you can’t seem to get it out yourself, seek professional help.
