When you spill sparkling wine on your rash guard, it's important to act fast. The first step is to remove as much of the wine as possible. Blot the stain with a dry, clean cloth. Take care not to rub the stain, as this will only spread it further.
After blotting the stain, apply a small amount of liquid dish soap to it. Massage the soap into fabric gently. Then rinse the area with cold water.
If the stain persists after soaking and rinsing, use a pre-treatment spray or laundry detergent. Spray the pre-treatment directly onto the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes. You can also soak the item in a solution of warm water and laundry detergent. After the pre-treatment, rinse the item with warm water.
Once the stain is gone, wash your rash guard as usual. Hang it to dry--never put it in a clothes dryer, as the heat could cause the stain to set.
The best way to avoid sparkling wine stains is to be extra careful when drinking. Wear an apron or an old shirt over your rash guard to keep it protected. It's also a good idea to have a towel handy to blot up any spills.
