What You Will Need

  • ½ teaspoon of liquid detergent
  • A teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 quart of lukewarm water
  • White cloths or paper towels

Step One: Act Quickly

The most important step in removing a sparkling wine stain from your raincoat is to act quickly! Once the stain has dried it can become more tricky to remove, so it’s best if you can tackle stain as soon as possible.

Step Two: Blot Stain

Take a clean white cloth or paper towel and blot stain, taking care to not rub the fabric. The aim of this step is to remove some of the moisture from the wine, making it easier to treat stain.

Step Three: Prepare Cleaning Solution

Mix together the liquid detergent, baking soda and lukewarm water in a bowl. Take a fresh cloth and saturate it in the cleaning solution. Gently press cloth against the stained area, which will help lift the stain from fabric.

Step Four: Rinse and Repeat

Rinse the raincoat with lukewarm water and blot any remaining moisture with a clean cloth. Repeat the cleaning process until the stain has been completely removed. It’s important to be patient and not to rush this step as that could cause the stain to spread. Once you’re happy, allow the fabric to dry.

Conclusion

Taking the above steps should help remove most sparkling wine stains from your raincoat. If however, the stain persists, it may be worth taking your coat to a professional cleaner.
