Poplin is a lightweight cloth that is made from a combination of cotton and synthetic fibers, making it durable and machine washable. The combination of fabric components, however, also means that removing stains can be a challenge. So, what do you do when unfortunate spills or splashes of sparkling wine land on your favorite poplin clothing or home décor?

Instructions for Cleaning Sparkling Wine Stains from Poplin

  • Gently dab at the stained area of the fabric with a damp cloth.
  • Mix two tablespoons of liquid dish soap with two cups of cold water.
  • Soak a cloth in soapy solution and gently dab onto the stained area.
  • Rinse the soapy solution from the fabric with cold water, then blot dry with a clean towel.
  • If there is still some discoloration, mix a tablespoon of baking soda with half cup of warm water, then dab onto the stained area with a soft cloth.
  • Rinse the baking soda solution off with cold water and allow the fabric to air dry.

When selecting a cleaning solution, be sure to read the care instructions for your fabric. Some fabrics, such as silk and wool, are more delicate and may require specialized products. Additionally, it is important to use cold water during the cleaning process and avoid using hot water or a washing machine, as these could set stain.
