Before You Begin

  • Gather all the necessary materials: paper towels, an old toothbrush, white vinegar, a clean cloth, and a laundry detergent.
  • Test each product on a small, inconspicuous corner of the stain before using it on whole area.
  • Be sure to work on the stained area from the outside of the stain, toward the center.

Removing the Stain

  1. Starting on the outer edge of stain, dab it with a paper towel to absorb as much of the liquid as possible.
  2. Dampen an old toothbrush in white vinegar and gently scrub the area.
  3. Rinse with cold water and blot with a dampened cloth until the stain is gone.
  4. If the stain is still visible, apply a small amount of laundry detergent to the area and use the toothbrush to work it into the fabric.
  5. Allow the detergent to sit for a few minutes and then rinse with cold water and blot dry.

Tips for Prevention

  • Act quickly! The longer a stain sits, the harder it will be to remove.
  • When entertaining, be mindful of where you set drinks down - blotting out spills as soon as they occur can help prevent permanent stains.
