Gather Your Supplies

The key to removing sparkling wine is to act quickly. Gather cold water, white vinegar, a mild detergent, and a cleaning cloth. Be sure that the cleaning cloth is a lint-free cloth and make sure the detergent you use won’t discolor the material you are cleaning.

Pretreating the Stain

Once you’ve gathered your supplies, turn the garment inside out. Make sure to check for colorfastness before you begin by dabbing a small amount of detergent to an inconspicuous part of the fabric. When you’re ready to proceed, gently dab a mixture of one tablespoon of white vinegar and one cup of cold water onto the affected area with a lint-free cloth.

Cleaning the Stain

After the stain has been pretreated, use a washing cloth or machine to clean stained area. If you’re using a washing machine, set it to gentle cycle and add a mild detergent. If you’re cleaning by hand, use a gentle detergent and cold water. Soak the fabric in the soapy water for about 10 minutes before scrubbing the area gently with a lint-free cloth.

Drying Material

Once stain has been removed, rinse the fabric in cold water and lay it out flat to dry. Do not put the item in the dryer, as this could cause the stain to become permanent. Allow the fabric to air dry and if necessary, press it with a cool iron.
