What to Do Immediately After Spilling the Sparkling Wine

The first thing to do after discovering a sparkling wine stain is to act fast and take some initial steps. You should start by blotting the stain with a cloth or paper towel to soak up as much of liquid as possible. Make sure not to rub it in and instead apply gentle pressure so as not to spread the stain. A damp cloth should then be laid on top of the spill and left for about 10 minutes to further absorb the oil.

How to Clean the Stain

Once you’ve blotted the stain and let it sit for a while, it’s time to start cleaning. To begin, grab a small bowl and fill it with 1 tablespoon of mild dishwashing liquid, ½ teaspoon white vinegar, and 2 cups of warm water. Thoroughly mix these together until the ingredients form a soapy solution. Next, take the damp cloth used earlier and submerge it in the bowl. Push cloth down until it's completely wet and then squeeze out any excess liquid. Now you’re ready to apply solution to the stained area. Gently begin to dab it onto the fabric, taking care not to rub it in too harshly. After several wipes, leave solution to work its magic for around 10 minutes.

Cleaning it Up

Once the solution has had time to set in, grab a fresh cloth (preferably one that's white) and dip it in clean warm water. Start to wipe the stained area again, this time with a circular motion. It may take several attempts to get it completely off, but eventually it should disappear. When finished, rinse the area with a damp cloth and allow linen to air dry.

For Any Residual Stains

If you find that there’s still some staining after cleansing the area, then sprinkle some baking soda on the spot and let it sit for about 10 minutes. Grab a damp cloth and a brush and scrub the linen, removing any remaining debris. Finally, rinse the area with a damp cloth and let it air dry.
