Whether it’s a dinner party or a simple night at home, having a few glasses of bubbly is always fun. To begin, make a solution of warm water and a mild liquid detergent or dish soap. Use a cloth to apply the solution liberally to the stained area, blotting gently to remove the stain. Don’t scrub vigorously or you could damage the leather.
If the stain persists, make a paste of baking soda and a few drops of white vinegar. Rub the paste onto the stain and leave it on for 30 minutes. Wipe off with a damp cloth and then allow the leather to air dry.
For tougher, more set-in stains, you’ll need to use a commercial leather cleaner. Before using any product, read the label and test it in an inconspicuous area first. When applying, rub the cleaner in with a soft cloth, going with the grain. Allow it to sit for the suggested period of time and wipe off with a dry cloth.
When the stain is gone and the leather is clean and dry, protect the surface with a leather conditioner. This will help keep the leather from drying out and cracking over time. Once conditioner has been applied, buff it to a shine with a soft cloth.
Dealing with sparkling wine stains on leather doesn’t have to be a stressful experience. With patience, a little elbow grease, and the right cleaning materials, you can have your leather looking as good as new.
