One of the most important steps for removing any type of stain is to blot the area with a clean, absorbent cloth or paper towel. This will help to absorb excess moisture and prevent stain from spreading even further. Start by pressing firmly and gently against the stained area and repeat this process until no more liquid comes onto the cloth.
After blotting up as much liquid as possible from the stained area, it’s time to pre-treat the stain with a professional-grade stain remover. Be sure to use a product specifically designed for Habutai: these are usually marked with a “W” on their packaging. Apply the solution directly to the stain, working it into fabric with a soft bristled brush if necessary.
Now it’s time to let the pre-treatment work its magic. Place the stained fabric in a bucket or shallow tub filled with cold water and a few drops of dish soap. Let the fabric soak for 30 minutes to ensure the pre-treatment has completely penetrated the stain.
Once pre-treatment has had adequate time to work, you can move on to washing fabric. Begin by rinsing off pre-treatment, then place the fabric in your washing machine. Use the gentle cycle and cold water setting, plus a mild laundry detergent, to complete the cleaning process. If the stain persists, consider using a color-safe bleach for additional stain removal.
Once the fabric has been washed, hang it up to air-dry. Never put Habutai fabric in dryer, as this can cause damage to the delicate fibers. Once the fabric is completely dry, check to see if the stain is gone; if not, repeat Steps 2 through 5 as needed.
