Step 1: Clean the Stain Right Away

Start by blotting up as much of wine as possible with a clean cloth. If it has already dried, use a soft bristled brush to loosen the surface before blotting it again. This will prevent the stain from spreading further and will make it easier to remove.

Step 2: Pretreat the Stain

Make a paste by mixing equal parts water and powdered detergent. Gently rub the mixture into the stain using a soft-bristled brush. Let this sit for about 10 minutes, then blot the excess with a damp cloth. Do not rub or scrub too hard, as this could cause damage to the material.

Step 3: Soak the Garment

Fill a sink or bucket with warm water and add a few drops of mild laundry detergent. Immerse the garment and allow it to soak for about 20 minutes. Gently squeeze the fabric to help loosen the stain, but do not rub it too hard.

Step 4: Rinse and Dry

Rinse the garment in cold water and transfer to a washing machine. Use the delicate cycle and cold water. Afterwards, lay the garment flat to dry, as heat can cause the stain to set. Avoid letting the fabric sit in direct sunlight or near a heat source, as this could cause the stain to become permanent.

Step 5: Spot Check

Once the garment is dry, take a look at the stain. If it's still visible, repeat steps two and three until it's gone. Once it's been sufficiently removed, give the garment a final rinse and wash in the machine.
