Sparkling wine is great for parties, but it can also be a party pooper if it gets spilled and leaves behind a stubborn stain. Fortunately, there are a few tricks you can use to get rid of that pesky mark so you can enjoy your beverage without embarrassment.

Step 1: Blot the Stain

The first step is to remove as much of the liquid as possible. Use a clean, absorbent cloth or paper towel to gently dab – don’t rub – at the stain. This will help to keep the stain from spreading and will also make it easier to remove the remaining stain.

Step 2: Wash the Area

Once you’ve blotted away as much of sparkling wine as possible, use a mild soap and warm water to create a solution that you can use to wash stained area. Dip a cloth into the solution and use it to scrub the spot gently. Rinse the area with clean, warm water and dry it with a clean towel.

Step 3: Spot Treat with Baking Soda

If you still have traces of stain after washing the area, use baking soda to remove the remaining residue. Make a paste by mixing a small amount of baking soda with water and apply it to the stained area. Let the paste sit for 10 to 15 minutes, then rinse the area with clean water. Dry area with a soft cloth.

Step 4: Use a Specialized Cleaner

If all else fails, you can purchase a specialty cleaner for removing sparkling wine stains from furniture. Follow the instructions on the product packaging to apply the cleaner and remove stain.
