Pre-Treating a Sparkling Wine Stain

Your first step should be to pre-treat stain. This can help to reduce the chances of a residue remaining after stain is removed. Start by dabbing a little white vinegar onto the stain and leave it for 15 minutes.

Rinsing the Down Jacket in Cold Water

After pre-treatment step, take the garment outside and rinse the stained area using cold water. Keep rinsing until the liquid from stain is no longer visible.

Using a Wool Detergent

Once you've finished rinsing the stain, treat it with a wool detergent. These are great for delicate garments, such as down jackets, as they're designed not to damage the fabric. Fill an empty bucket with cold water and add two tablespoons of detergent, stirring until it's fully dissolved.

Soaking Down Jacket in the Mixture

With the detergent added, place the stained area of the down jacket into the detergent mix and leave it to soak for 15 minutes. Be sure not to leave it any longer.

Rinsing the Stain One Final Time

Next, take the garment outside once more and rinse it with cold water. Make sure to use a light hand when doing this, as you don't want to damage the fabric.

Drying the Down Jacket Outdoors

If you attempt to dry the down jacket indoors, natural effect of heat will set the residual stain. Therefore, it's important to let the garment dry outside in the sun.

Using a Stain Remover

As a final precautionary measure, treat the stained area with a stain remover. This should help to lift whatever residual stain remains on the coat.
