The first step to cleaning any sparkling wine stains from your cotton piqué fabric is to remove any excess liquid as soon as possible. Blot and dab the stained area with a towel or cloth until no more moisture is absorbed. Don't rub or scrub the stain, as this can cause further damage to the fabric.
Once the excess liquid has been removed, mix one tablespoon of liquid dishwashing detergent into two cups of cold water. Mix the solution thoroughly and then submerge stained area in the mixture for up to 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, take the garment out of the mixture and rinse with cold water.
If the stain is still visible after the initial soaking, you may need to treat it with a spot laundry cleaner or stain remover. Follow the instructions on the product label for best results, and avoid any products that contain bleach or other harsh chemicals. After treating the stain with a spot cleaner, rinse the fabric with cold water once again and hang it to dry overnight.
After garment has dried, check to make sure the stain is completely gone. If there are still traces of the sparkling wine stain, repeat the process until the fabric is restored to its original beauty. With these simple steps, your cotton piqué should remain free of any embarrassing wine stains in the future.
