If you've ever spilled a glass of sparkling wine, you know how quickly it can spread. Getting it out of fabric can be particularly tough, so you should act fast to expel the stain before it sets. Fortunately, below are several ways that will help you clean sparkling wine out of cotton denim:
As soon as possible, rinse the stained area with cold water. This will help minimize the effects of the tannin in the wine and stop it from permanently staining your denim. Keep rinsing until the water runs clear or no more of the wine comes out. You may have to repeat this process a few times.
Mix a few drops of liquid hand soap or dishwashing liquid with cold water in a bowl. Gently blot the stained part of the jeans with a cloth dipped in the mixture and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, rinse the jeans with cold water.
Mix equal parts white vinegar and cold water in a bowl and use it to gently blot the stained area. The acidity of the white vinegar will help break down the tannins in the wine, making them easier to remove. Once the stain is gone, rinse the jeans with cold water again.
Mix one teaspoon of ammonia with one cup of cold water. Use a cloth to gently rub the solution into the stained area. The ammonia will help further break down tannins and allow you to completely remove the stain. Don't forget to rinse the jeans with cold water after applying the solution.
Finally, wash the jeans in the washing machine using the recommended temperature setting. Make sure to use a gentle detergent and avoid using bleach or fabric softeners, which could set the stain. Hang the jeans to air dry afterwards.
