Step 1: Blot

As soon as the spill occurs, the first thing you should do is to blot the stain immediately using a paper towel or a piece of cloth. Moving the fabric around might spread the stain further, so make sure to blot it gently and not rub it.

Step 2: Test for Colorfastness

To make sure the stain can be treated without discoloring fabric, it’s important to test for colorfastness. Dilute some dish soap in warm water, then soak a cotton swab in it and dab it on a hidden area of the fabric. If color remains same, you can go ahead with step 3.

Step 3: Soak & Rinse

Create a mixture of liquid detergent, white vinegar and warm water, then soak a piece of cloth into it. Carefully dab the stained area with this solution, then rinse the fabric with cold water.

Step 4: Treat with Stain Remover & Laundry Detergent

Now it’s time to treat the stain with a stain remover spray and a laundry detergent. Apply the products on both sides of the fabric, then let them sit there for about 5 minutes. When finished, rinse the garment with cold water.

Step 5: Launder & Hang Dry

Finally, place the garment in the washing machine, then hang it to dry. Don’t put it in the dryer as it might damage both the fabric and the stain.
