First, take a look at the label or tag on your coat. Certain types of fabric and materials need special care, so check to make sure that the instructions on the tag are followed so as not to damage material.

If you’re dealing with a natural fabric, like cotton, linen or wool, start by gently blotting up as much as the wine as you can with a cloth or paper towel. Next, mix one part white vinegar with three parts cold water and dab this onto the stain with a clean cloth. Keep dabbing until the stain starts to fade away, then rinse the area with cold water.

Another option is to apply a thick paste made from baking soda and cold water. Leave the paste on the stain for several minutes, then wipe it away with a clean cloth. Rinse the coat with cold water and repeat if necessary.

For synthetic fabrics, try using club soda. Apply some of the soda directly to the stain, then let it sit for a few minutes before blotting it up with a clean cloth. You can also use a mixture of one part dish soap and two parts club soda.

No matter which method you choose, be sure to test it first on an inconspicuous area of the coat before applying it directly to stain. This will help ensure that method won’t cause any additional damage to the fabric.

Once the stain has been removed, you can hang the coat up in a well-ventilated area to air dry. This should help prevent the stain from setting in.

Cleaning a sparkling wine stain from a coat can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be. With the right tools and techniques, you can get your coat looking good as new.
