As soon as you realize you have a sparkling wine stain, reach for a stack of paper towels or clean white rags and dab the affected area. Don’t rub or scrub the stain–this will only cause the stain to spread deeper into the fibers. Keep blotting until you’ve absorbed all the excess liquid.
Once you’ve absorbed most of the liquid, pre-treat the stained spot with a store-bought laundry stain remover or a homemade solution of white vinegar and baking soda. Spray or apply the solution generously to the stain, then let it sit for at least 15 minutes.
After pretreating, you’re ready to launder the broomstick lace as you normally would. Use cold water and a mild laundry detergent and choose the lowest heat setting. Make sure the temperature is lower than 110 degrees Fahrenheit to avoid any more damage to the lace.
Once the washing machine has finished cycle, take a look at the affected area. If some of the stain is still present, you may have to repeat steps 2 and 3. You can also try using a stronger cleaning solution or soaking the fabric overnight before throwing it in the wash again.
