When it comes to getting a stain out of a blazer or other article of clothing, the earlier you act, the better. If you’ve just spilled sparkling wine on your blazer at a party, don’t wait for it to dry before starting the removal process.
Use a clean, white towel to blot the sparkling wine from the fabric. This will help to lift some of the liquid out of the fibers.
If possible, pre-treat stain with seltzer water before continueing. This helps to break down the stain and make it easier to remove.
Once the stain is pre-treated and blotted, apply a few drops of liquid detergent directly to the stain. Rub it into the fibers with your fingers or a soft brush for a few minutes, then allow it to sit for about 10 minutes.
Rinse the stain with cold water, using your fingers or a soft brush to ensure detergent is removed from the fabric.
Finally, launder the blazer as usual. Allow it to air dry, and inspect the area afterward. If the stain is still visible, repeat Steps 1-4.
Yes, you can use white vinegar, club soda, or salt water as well.
No, this method works best on natural fibers such as cotton or wool, but may not be effective on synthetics.
