When it comes to removing a stain, the earlier, the better. So as soon as you've noticed that a spot of sparkling wine has been spilt, it's time to act. Start by fetching a bowl of cold water and a clean, white cloth.

Soak the spot of the Battenberg lace in the cool water. You should see the stain start to lift. Once the stain has disappeared, change the water for fresh and rinse the lace, gently wringing out any excess liquid.

If stain hasn't come out completely, there are a few other techniques you can try. Rubbing a solution of soap flakes and ammonia onto the stain may help, or another option is to use a tiny amount of mild detergent. Be sure to test a small area of your lace first to make sure this method won't cause any damage.

Once you've treated the stain, put Battenberg lace into a washing machine with a gentle detergent. Set it to a cool wash and be sure to avoid using any bleach or fabric softener. If it's a delicate fabric, then handwashing may be a better option.

Once the Battenberg lace has been washed, reshape it while it's still wet so that it retains its original form. Finally, leave it to air dry naturally. This should help to keep the fabric looking as good as new.

By following these simple steps, you should be able to remove those pesky sparkling wine stains from your Battenberg lace in no time.
