If the sparkling wine has not yet dried, the most important thing to do is gently dab stained area with a clean cloth or paper towel. Do not rub the fabric in circles or back and forth, as this could spread the stain or damage the fibers of your clothing. Keep dabbing until all of the excess wine has been removed.
Using an enzyme-based cleaner, such as a laundry detergent bar, spray, or powder, pre-treat the stain before laundering. Allow the cleaning agent to work for about five minutes. As you wait, fill a sink or bucket with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent to it.
Soak clothing in the water and detergent mixture for 10-15 minutes, agitating fabric occasionally while swishing the garment around. This will loosen the stain and allow the cleaning agent to penetrate further into the fabric.
After soaking clothing, launder according to care instructions on the garment label. If you're unsure about the directions, select the warmest water setting and use a boxed detergent for best results. Let the clothing air dry or tumble dry on low heat.
If the stain still persists after washing, repeat the pre-treatment and laundering process. Do not use bleach or harsh chemicals as these could damage fibers of the clothing.
With these easy steps, you can efficiently remove those pesky sparkling wine stains from Banana Republic clothing. Before you know it, your garment will look brand new and you can get back to sipping that bubbly beverage!
