As soon as possible, grab a clean, white cloth or paper towel and gently blot the stain. Don't rub the stain – this could spread it. Keep blotting until you've removed all of the visible sparkling wine.
Create a solution of warm water and mild detergent and mix it together until it forms a light lather. Using a soft cloth, apply the soap and water mixture to stained area in circular motions. Once the stain appears to be gone, rinse the spot with a damp cloth.
If stain persists, create a solution of one part white vinegar and two parts warm water. Gently dab solution onto the stain with a cotton ball. Allow the vinegar to sit for several minutes before wiping away with a damp cloth.
If the stain still won’t budge, use a laundry detergent that contains enzymes, such as Tide or Persil. Create a solution of the detergent and warm water, then use a soft brush to work the solution into the stain. Let the solution sit for several minutes, then rinse with a damp cloth. Finish by air drying.
Sparkling wine stains don’t have to be a cause for panic. With the right materials and a bit of patience, you can easily get your ballet flats back to their original, stain-free state. So pop open champagne and enjoy your night out without fear of ruining your favourite pair of shoes.
