It's not uncommon for soy sauce to end up as an accidental guest on our clothes, and sometimes this can wreak havoc on our favourite Zara pieces. Whether you've got a stubborn soy sauce stain on a skirt or blazer, follow these steps to get it out:

What You'll Need

  • Cold water
  • OxiClean or a similar detergent
  • Laundry detergent
  • White vinegar
  • Borax powder
  • Sponge

Step by Step Instructions for Removing a Soy Sauce Stain

  1. Act quickly! As soon as you notice the soy sauce stain, start by soaking the fabric in cold water for around twenty minutes. This can help to prevent the stain from setting in.
  2. Once the item has been soaked for 20 minutes, apply a small amount of OxiClean or a similar, colour-safe detergent. Rub it into the stained area gently and then rinse with cold water.
  3. If the stain isn't entirely gone, create a paste with laundry detergent and white vinegar. Rub the paste gently into the stained area and leave for 5 minutes. Then, use a sponge to gently scrub the stain area and rinse with cold water.
  4. If the stain still persists, make a paste with borax powder and cold water. Apply this paste to the stain, allow it to sit for 30 minutes, and then rinse with cold water.
  5. To finish off, launder the piece of clothing normally and check it before placing it in the dryer. If the stain isn't totally gone, repeat the above steps until it is completely removed.
