Soy sauce is a savory and versatile condiment popular in many Asian cuisines. It's no wonder that it often winds up spilled on clothing, especially when consumed in large quantities! Fortunately, the stain from soy sauce on wool can be treated fairly easily if addressed quickly.
Removing Fresh Soy Sauce Stains from Wool
- Blot the stain with a clean cloth to remove as much of the soy sauce as you can.
- Mix a solution of one tablespoon of liquid detergent, 1/2 teaspoon of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water.
- Using a clean cloth, dab the mixture onto stain.
- After five minutes, rinse fabric with cold water.
- If the stain persists, repeat steps 2-4. For stubborn stains, mix one tablespoon of ammonia and two cups of warm water and follow steps 3-4.
- Once the stain has been removed, launder the garment in washing machine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
Removing Dried Soy Sauce Stains from Wool
- Scrape off as much of the dried soy sauce as you can with a dull knife or spoon.
- Mix a solution of one tablespoon of liquid detergent, two tablespoons of white vinegar, and two cups of warm water.
- Soak stained area in the solution for one hour.
- Rinse the garment with cold water until the stain is gone.
- If the stain still persists, mix one tablespoon of ammonia and two cups of warm water and follow steps 3-4.
- Once the stain has been removed, launder the garment in the washing machine according to the manufacturer's instructions.
