Removing Fresh Stains

If the soy sauce stain is still wet or just starting to set, the best way to deal with it is to blot it up as soon as possible. Start by gently dabbing spill with paper towels or a clean cloth. Don't rub or scrub stain - this will only make it spread more. As you blot, you should see the soy sauce transferring to the cloth or towel.

Once stain is dry, you can tackle it with a bit of laundry detergent or pre-treatment spray. Apply a small amount to the stained area and let it sit for a few minutes. Gently agitate the fabric together with your fingers to further distribute the treatment and help lift the stain. Rinse the area with cool water and then launder it as usual.

Dealing With Set Stains

If soy sauce has already had a chance to set, it might require a bit more work. Start by putting wallet in a large plastic bag and storing it in the freezer overnight. The cold temperature will make the soy sauce easier to lift out of the fabric. Then, when you're ready to tackle the stain, take the wallet out of the freezer and let it thaw for a few minutes.

Mix two drops of clear dishwashing liquid with one cup of warm water. Dip a soft-bristled brush or cloth into the soapy mixture and gently scrub the stain. If stain persists, try sponging it with rubbing alcohol. Be sure to test the alcohol on an inconspicuous area first to make sure it won't damage the fabric.

Once soy sauce is gone, rinse the area with cool water and allow wallet to air dry.

Preventing Future Stains

The best way to keep soy sauce from staining your wallet is to simply keep it away from food! If you're eating greasy foods like noodles or fried rice, it's best to leave your wallet in your pocket or bag. This will also reduce the risk of you accidentally losing it.
