Removing Fresh Soy Sauce Stains

The first step in removing soy sauce stains from a tuxedo is to act quickly. The sooner you can start treating the stain, the better your chances are of removing it. To remove fresh soy sauce stains, begin by taking a absorbent paper towel or clean cloth and blotting the stained area to soak up as much of the liquid soy sauce as possible.

Once you've blotted away as much as you can, the next step is to moisten a paper towel or cloth with cold water and gently dab the stained area. Avoid rubbing stain as this could cause it to spread. It's important not to use hot water, as heat will set the stain into fabric making it much harder to remove.

Once the area has been lightly dampened, apply a small amount of liquid dish soap to the stained area and work it in with cloth. Allow the soap to sit on the stain for a few minutes before rinsing off with cold water. Once rinsed, gently pat the area dry using a paper towel. Repeat the process as needed until stain has been completely removed.

Removing Set-In Soy Sauce Stains

If the soy sauce stain on your tuxedo has already set, there are still steps you can take to try and remove it. First, mix 1 tablespoon of liquid dish detergent with 2 cups of cold water in a bowl or container. Take a clean rag or cloth and dip it in the solution. Gently blot the stained area with the soapy cloth, working the solution into fabric. Again, avoid rubbing as this could cause the stain to spread.

Once the stained area has had a chance to soak in the solution, rinse off with cold water. Place the tuxedo on an old towel, and lay another white towel over the stained area. Gently press down to absorb any remaining moisture. Once area is dry, examine to see if the stain has been removed. If not, repeat the above steps as needed.
