Soy sauce is an essential part of a lot of traditional foods, but it can be clumsy to use. It's quite easy to spill some onto your clothes, table cloth or even your shoes. If you've accidentally spilled soy sauce on your shoes, don't worry – cleaning it is actually quite straightforward. Here's how to do it.

The first step to cleaning up a soy sauce stain is to scrape off the excess sauce before it has the chance to set. Even if the sauce has already started to dry, it's still worth scraping as much as possible off before tackling the remaining stain.
Grab a cloth and lightly douse it with some water. Then add a few drops of a mild detergent, such as something like dishwashing liquid, and work the soap into the cloth. It's important to avoid using any harsh detergents at this stage, as these can damage the material of the shoe.
Take the soapy cloth and start to dab at the stain. Don't rub or scrub too hard, as this could cause more damage to the shoe. Instead, lightly dab the cloth against stain, and let the combination of detergent and water break down stain.
Once the stain has been mostly removed, take a clean cloth and lightly rinse the area with some clean water. Then leave shoe to air-dry. Don't try and speed up the process by using a hairdryer or other heating device, as this could distort the material of shoe.
