The first thing you need to do is to pre-treat the stain with a liquid laundry detergent. Gently rub detergent into the stain with a soft cloth. Afterwards, rinse off the detergent with cold water.
Next, you should soak the shift dress in a mixture of one gallon of warm water and half a cup of white vinegar. Allow the dress to soak for at least 30 minutes before removing.
Once you have removed the shift dress from the vinegar and water solution, it is time to launder it. Use your regular washing machine cycle and add one cup of distilled white vinegar to the washer instead of fabric softener.
After the washing cycle has finished, you should check if stain has been successfully removed. If stain is still visible, then repeat the above steps once more. When dealing with difficult stains, it is important not to give up too soon or else you may end up with a permanent stain.
It is best to treat the soy sauce stain as soon as possible, since this will make the stain removal process much easier. You should also avoid using hot water when pre-treating or soaking the shift dress as this can damage fabric.
