Before getting started, you'll need to have following items handy:
If the stain is fresh, you'll want to start by gently blotting up any excess liquid with a clean white cloth. This should help to keep the stain from spreading.
Once that’s done, apply a dollop of mild detergent directly onto the stain, rubbing it in gently with your fingertips. Let the detergent work its magic for 5-10 minutes, then proceed to the next step.
Using your old toothbrush (or other small scrubbing brush), work the detergent into the stain using gentle circular motions. You may need to dip the brush back into the detergent several times to ensure the stain is thoroughly saturated.
Once the entire affected area has been worked up with the detergent, rinse it off with warm water. Then, switch to your regular scrubbing brush and scrub the area until the stain is completely gone.
Even after you’ve removed the stain, the odor of soy sauce might still linger. To get rid of any lingering odors, pour a few tablespoons of white vinegar onto the affected area and rub it in with a clean white cloth. Rinse with warm water and repeat as needed.
Finally, you’ll want to make sure the coat is completely dry before putting it on. Hang it in a well-ventilated area or use a clothes dryer set on low heat.
And there you have it—your raincoat is now ready for wear, free of unsightly soy sauce stains and unpleasant odors.
