What You'll Need
- Laundry detergent
- White vinegar
- Baking soda
- Stain remover
- Dry cleaning solvents
Instructions
- Create a mixture of laundry detergent and warm water. Use the detergent solution to pre-treat the stained area on the poncho.
- Let the detergent sit for about 15 minutes before rinsing lightly under cold water. Avoid scrubbing or rubbing the fabric during this step.
- Mix 1 tablespoon of white vinegar with 2 cups of warm water in a new container.
- Soak a cloth in this mixture and use to dab the stain area, blotting gently to remove the soy sauce.
- If stain is still evident, mix 1 tablespoon of baking soda with 2 cups of water and create a paste. Rub paste into affected area and allow it to rest for 15 minutes.
- Rinse the paste away with cold water and check for any remaining stains.
- If the stain persists, spray the area with a stain remover and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Wash the poncho according to manufacturer’s instructions. If the poncho is labeled as dry-clean only, take it to a dry cleaner.
Additional Tips
- Always read the care tag on your poncho for the best cleaning instructions.
- Test a tiny area of the fabric with stain remover before using it, just to be sure.
- Always apply solutions from the back side of the fabric.
