If soy sauce has made it onto your favorite pair of pants, don’t panic! Stains can often be removed from fabrics with right cleaning solution. The sooner you treat the stain, the better. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Baking soda
  • Vinegar
  • Laundry detergent
  • Cold water

Step 1: Blot the Stain

First of all, you’ll need to soak up as much of the soy sauce as possible. Use cold water and a paper towel or a clean cloth to gently blot the spot. Don’t rub the fabric.

Step 2: Make a Mixture of Baking Soda and Vinegar

Mix equal parts baking soda and vinegar in a bowl. This mixture will help tackle stain and lift it out of the fibers of fabric.

Step 3: Apply Mixture to the Stain

Using a clean cloth or cotton pad, apply the mixture to the stained area. Blot the spot gently until the vinegar and baking soda mixture starts to dry or become less effective. You don’t have to rinse the mixture off – it will dissolve over time.

Step 4: Treat with Laundry Detergent

Once the mixture of baking soda and vinegar has dried, pre-treat the spot with a laundry detergent. Apply the detergent directly to the stain and let it sit for one to two minutes to give it time to break down the stain.

Step 5: Wash the Pants

The final step is to wash stained item in the machine. Be sure to use cool water and a gentle setting. If the stain remains after washing, repeat the steps and wash again.
